RESEARCH ETHICS:
Query by Congress Halts New Policy

A complaint from a powerful member of Congress has at least temporarily scuppered a new federal requirement that institutions teach their biomedical researchers how to act responsibly. The Public Health Service has put the requirement on hold while the Office of Research Integrity reviews concerns voiced by the House Commerce Committee, which oversees the National Institutes of Health. The delay is part of a broader examination of actions taken by the outgoing Clinton Administration.
