Caltech Picks Insider to Lead JPL

The Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California, soon will have a new leader who promises to confront the lab's troubles. Charles Elachi, now chief of space and earth science programs at JPL, will take over as director on 1 May.
