Tectonics, Design Combine for Indian Disaster--More Coming

The major earthquake that shattered the western Indian state of Gujarat last week came as no surprise to seismologists. Neither did the devastation--more than 10,000 people died in a few minutes. But worse is on the way: Seismologists are as certain as they can be that larger quakes, upward of a dozen, will strike along the northern edge of the subcontinent.
