News FocusSCIENCE INTERVIEW:
The public effort to sequence the human genome is facing a huge challenge on several levels from a privately funded team at Celera Genomics in Rockville, Maryland. Both teams are racing to complete a draft of the human genome in the next few months, and both are engaged in a vigorous, and sometimes noisy, competition. In a meeting on 14 March, Science asked Francis Collins, head of the National Human Genome Research Institute, to discuss his views on this controversy, the rivalry with Celera, and future priorities of the Human Genome Project. |
