On the Edge of the Solar System

Beyond the orbit of Neptune, the solar system has long been predicted to contain a large number of small objects, but until recently they were beyond the limits of detectability. A wealth of new observations is now elucidating the objects inhabiting the so-called Edgeworth-Kuiper belt, but central aspects of its evolution and structure remain controversial.
