EPA Ponders Pesticide Tests in Humans

Recent reports that pesticide companies have begun testing their products in humans helped spur the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to convene an expert panel last month to lay the groundwork for its first-ever set of rules for conducting such tests. But the panelists wrestled mightily with the issue without pinning it to the map. Some argued that such tests might be permissible with appropriate safeguards; others weren't so sure. The EPA is expected to issue its draft policy later this year.
