CHEMISTRY:
A New Type of Hydrogen Bond
Robert H. Crabtree
Hydrogen bonding is responsible for a wide array of chemical properties, from the melting point of water to the behavior of enzymes. In his Perspective, Crabtree discusses recent work in which entirely new kinds of hydrogen bonds have been discovered. Understanding and controlling these new types of bonding may enable researchers to harness a variety of important catalytic processes.
