THE CEREBELLUM:
Where Are Our Motor Memories?
Ingrid Wickelgren
More than a decade of research has shown that the cerebellum is needed for learning simple movements, such as conditioned reflexes, in which animals associate a tone with a puff of air so that eventually the tone by itself can cause them to blink their eyes. But what role the cerebellum plays in learning and improving complex motor skill such as writing or driving a car is not clear.
