Senate Bill Calls for More Spending

A bipartisan group of senators joined forces last week to make a joint plea for the long-term health of science and technology. Led by Senator Bill Frist (R-TN) and cheered on by the scientific community, the coalition introduced a bill that would boost civilian R&D spending from $38 billion in 1999 to $68 billion in 2010, an annual increase of 2.5% above inflation for the next 12 years.
