AUSTRALIAN PARTNERSHIPS:
New Life for Research Centers

MELBOURNE--Last week the Australian government announced it would extend the life of its Cooperative Research Centers, a 7-year effort linking government, universities, and industrial researchers, for another 7 years at its current level of funding, marking a victory for an R&D coalition that had lobbied against a broad wave of proposed cuts. The $138-million-a-year program helps support 67 centers conducting research ranging from Aboriginal health to information technology.
