Industry Links Debated, Moon Shot Killed

At last week's meeting of the European Space Agency's Council, Director-General Antonio Rodotà presented a "menu" of new initiatives that will fulfill his stated aim of forging new partnerships with Europe's space industry. The plans included upgrading existing launchers and developing new ones, initiating an Earth observation program encompassing both research-oriented missions funded by ESA and applications-based missions developed jointly with industry, and expanding the use of multimedia satellite systems and telecommunications.
