A marriage of optics and electronics could produce a new generation of computer chips many times faster than today's, but the two types of devices have to be made separately, then mated, complicating the assembly of large numbers of them into a single array. Now a research team has come up with a novel way to create these hybrid chips using DNA as a selective glue for sticking devices to the chip's surface.
