Crow Creek's Revenge

When it was discovered in the 1970s, the mass grave from a brutal war fought in A.D. 1325 along the Missouri River in South Dakota was generally thought to represent an extreme and isolated case of violence. Now, new analyses suggest that this massacre was merely one act in a long-running life-and-death struggle between Crow Creek and the ancestors of two neighboring tribes: the historic Mandan and Hidatsa.
