Agencies Embrace Peer Review to Strengthen Research Base

JAKARTA, INDONESIA--New grant programs and agencies are helping to establish and strengthen peer review throughout the region. The efforts must overcome resistance from senior scientists who are used to making funding decisions themselves, however, as well as a shortage of qualified reviewers. Moreover, although the extra money being funneled into competitive grants programs is welcome, scientists say it doesn't always go far enough.
