Furor Over Company Deal Roils AMA

Since mid-August, the American Medical Association (AMA) has been fending off a barrage of criticism from the public and its own members after announcing, then canceling, a multimillion-dollar contract to allow the Sunbeam Corp. to put the AMA logo on its health care products. Two weeks ago, the AMA purged three top-level executives involved with the deal. And last week, as the criticism continued, the AMA vowed to set new ethics guidelines for business ventures.
