UCSF Case Raises Questions About Grant Idea Ownership

The recent upholding of a finding of plagiarism against a former researcher at the University of California, San Francisco, has given grant writers something to think about. In the view of some observers, the definition of plagiarism used would condemn common grant-writing practices in which participants contribute text and ideas that become so thoroughly merged it may be impossible to sort out who contributed what when collaborations end.
