New Synchrotrons Light Up Microstructure of Earth

One of earth science's Holy Grails is to reproduce in the laboratory the temperatures and pressures of the Earth's core to find out how the iron it is made from behaves under such conditions. This is only possible with the tiniest of samples, and the bright and exceedingly fine beams at the new synchrotron sources are allowing researchers to get nearer to that goal.
