'No-Take' Zones Spark Fisheries Debate

An unusual experiment is getting under way this month off the Florida Keys. Federal officials have banned all fishing in a 30-kilometer-square patch of coral reefs, sea grass meadows, and mangrove swamps. The hope is that fish, larvae, and eggs from inside the reserve will spill over into neighboring waters, helping to restock fish populations. But scientists still don't know whether such reserves do, in fact, replenish fisheries.
