Stewardship Gravy Train Could Prove a Short Trip

Despite congressional aversion to new, big-science projects, the National Ignition Facility and the stockpile-stewardship program expect an easy trip through the budget cycle this year. The secret is a bipartisan coalition that doesn't want to rock the boat on the eve of a major debate in the Senate over ratification of the upcoming Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty.
