Why the Rise in Asthma Cases?

Asthma rates have skyrocketed in the developed world in the last 2 decades, doubling in the United States since 1980. Researchers do not yet know why, but they have some clues. Increased exposure to environmental allergens and immune system changes due to fewer childhood infections may play a role, say some. Moreover, geneticists are closing in on a host of genes that have been linked to increased asthma susceptibility.
