Ecological Economics:
Putting a Price Tag on Nature's Bounty

How much is the world worth? About $33 trillion, according to a controversial new study by ecologists and economists who teamed up to estimate the value of the goods and services provided for free by nature. The researchers included everything from crop varieties to the flood control offered by wetlands in their estimate, but critics challenge some of their numbers and the meaning of the final tally.
