LONDON--With less than 2 weeks to go before the U.K. general election, all the opinion polls are tipping Labour to topple the Conservatives, who have been in power for almost 2 decades. Taxation has been one of the central issues in the 6-week campaign, with the two main parties vying to offer the least burdensome tax system. As a result, pledges for increased spending on research have been few, but the parties are trying to woo researchers with other policies.
