The White House has launched a 6-month review of federal policies affecting universities in the hope of improving the health of the government-university research nexus. At a roundtable held at the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C., last week, participants expressed concern about sudden shifts in federal funding, inadequate reimbursement for the cost of supporting research on campus, and insufficient attention to education and training.
