The Human Frontier Science Program, which focuses on molecular biology and study of the brain, provides money for items that national programs generally do not fund, such as salaries and travel expenses for the exchange of postdocs between collaborating laboratories and funds for regular meetings of international teams--giving researchers an opportunity to carry out truly global collaborative science.
