The Human Frontier Science Program (HFSP) has this year won plaudits from the leaders of the G7 industrial nations, and an external review of its scientific achievements gave it a glowing endorsement. But Japan, which originally proposed HFSP, is growing tired of the fact that its international partners contribute little money to the program.
