The green fluorescent protein from the Pacific Northwest jellyfish has proved to be a valuable tool for tracking gene expression and tracing the workings of their protein products in living cells and tissues. The determination of the protein's three-dimensional structure, which is described in a Report on page 1392, may now make it even more useful, by helping researchers design new models in a wider range of colors.
