Pushchino--This town on the Oka River, 120 kilometers south of Moscow, is home to a collection of biological research institutes and one of Russia's newest universities. Pushchino State University, founded in 1992 along the lines of a U.S. land grant university, is trying to involve the research institutes in teaching and gear research and education to the needs of the local community. The university is being shaped by a consortium of local institutions and two U.S. universities.
