Beijing--A booming economy is both good and bad news for students thinking of entering science. It is attracting money into high-tech areas such as computer science, but high salaries in the commercial sector are luring many of the best and brightest out of science altogether. In response, the government and many research institutes are offering incentive programs to entice researchers back from abroad, but problems such as chronic housing shortages can be hard to overcome.
