20 Years After the Wall: Profile: Hübner Family:

Big Dreams Come True

An East German family of scientists reflects on life before and after 1989. The family has become a dynamic demonstration of how the lives of scientists in the former East Germany have changed over the past 2 decades. Gerhard and Gertraude Hübner spent decades struggling to do research in East Germany without compromising their personal ideals with allegiance to the ruling Communist Party. After the fall of the Berlin wall, their three children were able to pursue opportunities both within and outside Germany that they could only have dreamed of before then.
