GENETICS: Genomes Highlight Plant Pathogens' Powerful Arsenal

On page 1261, a large team describes the first two genomes of the genus Phytophthora. The sequences reveal that P. sojae and P. ramorum, which cause soybean root rot and sudden oak death respectively, have a diverse array of proteins with which to attack their hosts. (Read more.)
