Mass spectrometry is a central analytical technique for proteinresearch and for the study of biomolecules in general. Drivenby the need to identify, characterize, and quantify proteinsat ever increasing sensitivity and in ever more complex samples,a wide range of new mass spectrometrybased analyticalplatforms and experimental strategies have emerged. Here wereview recent advances in mass spectrometry instrumentationin the context of current and emerging research strategies inprotein science.
