MICROBIAL ECOLOGY:
How a Marine Bacterium Adapts to Multiple Environments

On page 1737 of this issue of Science, researchers describe how water temperature and other environmental factors determine which strains of the photosynthetic bacteria called Prochlorococcus thrive at particular places.
