NEUROSCIENCE:
Epileptic Neurons Go Wireless

Neuroscientists have long been puzzled by the fact that prolonged epileptic seizures facilitate future seizures. In his Perspective, Staley discusses a recent study in a rat model of temporal lobe epilepsy (Bernard et al.), which shows that a contributory factor to this facilitation is the loss of inhibitory K+ ion currents called A currents.
