The Case of the Disappearing DNA Hotspots

COLD SPRING HARBOR, NEW YORK--New approaches to genome studies are showing that DNA is full of surprises, researchers learned here 12 to 16 May at the Biology of Genomes meeting. Two research teams reported key differences between chimps and humans in the locations of DNA recombination hotspots: places where matching chromosomes exchange DNA much more frequently than normal.
