Calcium and CREST for Healthy Dendrites

Neuroscientists have long pondered how neurons form their elegant arbors of dendrites. In their Perspective, Jefferis et al. discuss new work that identifies a calcium-responsive transcription co-activator called CREST as a key player in dendrite formation during development (Aizawa et al.).
