Academia Gets No Help From U.S. in Patent Case

The U.S. government's top lawyer has recommended that the Supreme Court reject pleas from Duke University and other institutions to review a lower court ruling that could end a 190-year-old practice of allowing academic scientists free use of patented tools in basic research.
