TOKYO--The new Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) will be a lot more than a repackaging of the 19-year-old Ocean Drilling Program. Larger and more ambitious, IODP will require U.S. scientists to get used to a co-captain, and Japanese scientists to take a direct hand in managing their science. Many other countries are also hoping for a seat at the table, although their status remains unclear.
