CANADA:
Universities Promise More Tech Transfer

TORONTO--In return for a promise by the government to double research funding and create a permanent fund to pay the overhead costs of conducting federally funded research, Canadian universities have agreed to do a better job of turning academic research into commercial products. The deal gives each side something it badly wants, at a price both sides appear willing to pay.
