Framework 6 Debut Prompts Calls for a Better Approach

Researchers have become increasingly frustrated by what they see as the influence of politics in the decisions of the European Union's Framework Programme, which is preparing to begin a new 5-year funding cycle. But they've never had an alternative. A meeting last month of 200 research managers to discuss establishing a European Research Council provided them with a forum to discuss a better way to fund basic research.
