EUROPEAN CLIMATE:
Mild Winters Mostly Hot Air, Not Gulf Stream

The Gulf Stream does little to moderate European winters, it turns out, and the atmosphere plays a bigger role in climate change than once thought. The new analysis, to appear in next month's Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, will no doubt stoke the debate over the relative role of the Gulf Stream and the tropics in climate change.
