Bringing Channels Closer to the Action!

How does a cell expressing many different G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) know which signaling pathway and target proteins to activate when a GPCR binds to its ligand? As Laporte et al. explain in their Perspective, new findings (Davare et al.) suggest that the cell assembles a multiprotein complex in the plasma membrane that contains the GPCR, its signaling proteins, and the final target effector protein, thus ensuring that the GPCR activates only the correct signaling pathway, and target effector protein.
