At 49, Richard Klausner is the youngest member of NIH's inner circle. He also has the largest portfolio. As director of the $3.74 billion National Cancer Institute, Klausner controls a budget some 150 times that of the NIH director, a job for which he has been frequently rumored to be a candidate.
