TIRANA--World-class physicist Rexhep Meidani made an unexpected entrance into Albanian politics. Now, as president of a country that has only recently emerged from its self-imposed Cold War isolation, he's fighting to rebuild its shattered education system. Meidani recently met with Science to discuss the problems facing his impoverished country and his transformation from physicist to politician.
