MOLECULAR BIOLOGY:
Making Catalytic DNAs

Ronald R. Breaker

Although cells routinely use enzymes based on RNA and protein, catalytic DNAs are valuable enzymes that seem to have been ignored by Nature. Enzyme engineers, however, have no intention of ignoring catalytic DNAs (or deoxyribozymes as they are known) and are busy synthesizing them in the laboratory and finding applications for them in biotechnology and therapeutics, as Ronald Breaker reveals in his Techview article.
