ATOMIC PHYSICS:
Fragmentation Processes in Atomic Collisions

Colm T. Whelan

State-of-the-art atomic scattering experiments of hydrogen ionization by an impacting electron are now providing important benchmark data for theoretical studies. Rescigno et al. (page 2474) present an important new computational approach that gives excellent agreement with the best available experimental data. But experiment has moved on from hydrogen to more complex problems, challenging theory to not only respond to measurements but also take a role in guiding experiments.
