A Tentative Nondiscovery of the Higgs

BATAVIA, ILLINOIS--The OPAL collaboration at the Large Electron-Positron collider, a particle accelerator at CERN in Geneva, is trying to dampen speculation that a handful of unexplained events in its data point to a discovery of the Higgs boson, the hypothetical particle that is thought to explain how everything else in the universe acquired its mass.
