NUCLEAR STRUCTURE: Enhanced: Duplicating a Tangled Genome
Peter Cook
Each cell's genetic material--long, long strands of DNA--is packed into the small sphere of the nucleus. In his Perspective, Cook describes what we know about how the cell does this packing while still allowing the cell to transcribe genes and replicate DNA. He goes on to discuss new results in this issue by Wei et al. that identify separate transcription and replication zones in the nuclei of cells.
