Update: The Numbers Game for Virus-Specific CD8+ T Cells

Peter C. Doherty

Recent advances have, for the first time, allowed accurate quantitation of the virus-specific effector and memory CD8+ T lymphocyte responses. The T cell numbers are much higher than anyone had previously suspected. The consequence is a revolution in our understanding of cell-mediated immunity in virus infections.
