Perspectives
Emulsions and colloids are fundamentally interesting but also have technological importance in industrial applications. In his Perspective, Joanny [see also Poulin et al. (p. 1770)] discusses results reported in the same issue on a new kind of colloidal interaction observed when water droplets are dispersed in a liquid-crystal solvent. This liquid-crystal emulsion provides a way to understand the formation and stability of defects in complex fluids.
