PARIS--A dispute sparked when construction work threatened an archaeological site in the southern French city of Rodez has become a rallying cause for French archaeologists. Last month, many researchers staged a week-long strike which culminated last week in a demonstration that brought more than 1000 people onto the streets of Paris. Their goal: to persuade the government to pass new laws to protect vulnerable historic sites.
